About Me

Welcome to My New Way of Life. My name is Mel, and I am the founder of My New Way of Life. I am a Registered Associate Nutritionist with the Association for Nutrition and I studied at Solent University, Southampton where I achieved a first class honors degree in Applied Human Nutrition as well as studying psychology, physiology and anatomy, biochemistry, Obesity and Weight Management and Public Health. Additionally, I am a health coach for Man v Fat, where I support overweight and obese men to achieve their goals of losing weight and increasing their physical activity.

Prior to becoming a Nutritionist, I had a very long rewarding career in Health and Social Care as a registered manager of several residential care homes. However, after a lightbulb moment with my own health, I decided to put all of my efforts in to studying nutrition to find out how to improve my own health and that of others. Like many of you, I have spent a lifetime of yo yo dieting, losing weight then regaining the weight, struggling with feeling hungry and occasional lack of will power when those around me are eating the most delicious foods and staying slim. What I learned is that although some diets work, it is often our own bodies chemistry which affects our ability to maintain that weight loss, whether this be teaching our brains to accept new habits and how to prevent cravings or whether our hormones are out of sync due to menopause or PMS and encouraging us to gain weight.

The biggest impact for me, was realising that nutrition was about providing fuel for your body, sounds daft right? We all know that food is fuel, but if you are honest with yourself, do you sit and think, I’m hungry, what is it that my body needs? Or do you just grab whatever snack that your taste buds fancy?

My aim for you is to change your mindset to look at food in a different way, creating a new you, a new lifestyle and the ability to lead a happier and healthier life in a world filled with not enough time and too much stress. I will support you with your nutritional health, your mind health and physical health, giving you the knowledge of how to succeed and the tools that you need to support you through your journey to ‘your’ new way of life.
